Leader in Me Focus Areas at Jody Richards Elementary
Teach the 7 Habits to all students and Integrate in all areas of school:
· Embed and reinforce in all areas of the school
· Reinforce at Morning Meetings and in classroom discussions
· Use “Class of ….” language for each homeroom with high school graduating year
· Student Engagement Focus with 7 Habits and all areas
- John Antonetti’s Student Engagement strategies (emphasizes Marzano and Bloom’s Taxonomy)
- Whole Brain Teaching/Power Teaching (Chris Biffle) strategies
Emphasize Leadership roles in Common Areas and Classrooms:
· Classroom Leadership Job Opportunities
· Service on Campus (S.O.C. Team)
· Integration of PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention & Supports) and LIM – L.E.A.D. Guidelines for Success with Covey Connection on all procedures in common areas
· Class Mission Statements created by each homeroom and recited daily
Students Learning to Set Goals and Track Data:
· Leadership Notebooks ~ monthly review with parents
· Begin with at least one personal and one academic goal
· Students should be given opportunity to reflect on these goals
· Plus/Delta reflection daily in all grade levels at 3:00 p.m.
· Data Scoreboards to motivate and model tracking our learning
Emphasis on Service Learning /Making a Contribution:
· School-wide Water Well Project
· School-wide Christmas Party projects instead of gift exchange
· Variety of school-wide community service projects throughout school year sponsored by Jr. Beta and our GT Leadership Students
Incentives / Rewards:
· All rewards offered in school are focused on intrinsic, more than extrinsic
- Limited use of extrinsic rewards (food/candy rewards, stickers, prize boxes)
- Focus on intrinsic rewards and team effort rewards (LEAD slip class goals, use of Mystery Motivator rewards –i.e. sit in the teacher’s chair)
· Leaders of the Month Celebrations monthly with a ceremony at Morning Meeting and lunch on stage (2 students from every homeroom)
· Honor Scholars – quarterly celebration for 4th-6th grade honor roll recognition
· Use School-wide Classroom Management System ~ Clip Chart
- Goal is for all students to end up on “Ready to Learn” daily
- Students are offered the opportunity to move up and down the chart throughout the same day instead of waiting until the next day (opportunity for students “recover” in same day)
